Peacehaven keep up their remarkable run to go top

The Tye’s incredible run of 12 wins in a row in all competitions, and 16 of their last 19 games since their last defeat, againt Lancing in Division 1 on September 8.

Saturday’s game was a return to league action following four straight cup encounters, in the RUR Cup (rounds two and three), FA Vase, and Sussex Senior Cup. They all finished in wins, naturally, meaning Shane Saunders’ men know they’ll have to juggle plenty of knockout fixtures with their league programme if they are to maintain their tilt at the title this season. Indeed, Peacehaven’s next game is a big FA Vase 3rd Round clash away at Haverhill Sports Association on Saturday.

A young and skilful visiting side gave Peacehaven a challenge Piddinghoe Avenue. But the Tye started brightly, and an early strike from Ashley Rees – following a cross from Callum Saunders – gave the hosts the lead on 13 minutes.

Chi continued to press before a second breakaway found Carl Dunk six yards, and he swerved a ball across the goal and into the far corner nine minutes later.

The away side pulled a goal back through Julian Boniface after the break and Haven were under pressure heading into the dying minutes. But while Chi had much of the possession, they struggled to create chances, and, with two minutes to go a trademark driving run and well-placed cross from substitute Joe Dryer saw Rees’ outstrectched leg turn the ball in to seal the points.
