Athletics and hockey hit by the big chill too

Local athletes and hockey sides have also suffered because of the freezing weather.

Hailsham Hockey Club reported: Due to the snow all matches at Hailsham Community College have been cancelled for January 19.

“All home matches are off.

“Training may take place on Wednesday 23rd if the snow clears by then.”

Hailsham HC’s Tim Fox told the Sussex Express: “Hailsham Community College advised me this morning that they will be closed tomorrow, so home games for Ladies 1s, Mens 1s and Millers are all postponed until later in season.

“Ladies 2s is unlikely to ahead at Steyning, but no decision has yet been made by the opposition.

“Men’s 2s at Littlehampton may go ahead, but again the opposition have yet to confirm.”

Lewes Hockey Club tweeted: “Obviously games are at risk of being called off this weekend. Please keep in touch with your captains.”

Lewes HC’s Zoe Richards told us: “I can tell you that the ladies 1s, 3s and 5s games, and the men’s 1s, as well as all home games, are cancelled. I’d be surprised if any are played but cant confirm others.”

The Sussex County Athletics Association announced: “Saturday’s Sussex Schools and Sussex Masters championships, which was scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed due to inclement weather.

“It is hoped to hold these event at Bexhill on 9th February and this will be confirmed within the next few days.”
