Athletics: Dave is first home as Striders travel to Bexhill

FIVE SEAFORD Striders travelled to Bexhill for the 5K run, first in this year’s series of events organised by Bexhill Runners.

First home for the club was Dave Dunstall in a good time of 18mins 46secs. The finishing order was then Gareth Hutchinson (19.11), Bill Sholl (26.56), Michelle Whatford (36.05), and Beverley Attridge (36.45).

Four days later four Striders travelled to the village of Lindfield, Sussex for the 5K and 10.5k events.

In the 5K Karen Clinton finished with a time of 26mins.28secs. Meanwhile in the 10.5K first home for the club in 12th place overall was Colin Hannant in 46.40, followed by Chris Piper (46.56) and Chris Wrathall (67.34).

On Saturday June 4 a team of Seaford Striders tackled the South Downs Way 100mile Relay. The event started at Beachy Head, Eastbourne and finished at Chilcomb Sports Ground, Winchester.

The 100miles was divided into 18 variable distance legs. Each team consisted of six runners with each runner completing three legs. The Striders team consisted of Natalie McCreath who ran legs 1, 10 and 16, Michael Martin (legs 2, 7 and 13), Alan Lade (legs 3, 9 and 14), Gary Hatcher legs (4, 8 and 15), Gary Lee legs (5, 11 and 17), Geoff Gray legs (6, 12 and 18).

The Striders were very pleased to finish in a total time for the 100miles of 13hrs 8mins 37secs, making them 13th out of the 25 teams in the “A” category and 20th out of the 52 teams that started.

On Sunday the June 5, 17 Seaford Striders took part in the Seaford Half Marathon with many other senior and junior members helping with the marshalling and finish area.

The Striders have an impressive history with this event over the years with Natasha Swan winning the ladies event in 2004 and 2007 and Geoff Gray the overall race winner in 2004, 2005 and 2008. There were 506 recorded finishers.

First home for the club and overall race winner with a fantastic run was Strider Vanaka Graham in a great time of 1hr 29mins 32secs. First lady for the club was Natasha Swan in a good time of 1hr 42mins 29secs giving her third place in her age group.

On Wednesday evening of June 8, 11 Striders travelled to the Worthing 10K, the first evening and seventh event in this year’s Sussex Road Racing Grand Prix. This year the event was also held on a new course.

First home for the club was Phil Carr continuing his fine form over the last year by finishing in 28th position overall out of the 621 finishers with a time of 38mins.58secs. First lady for the club was Angie Cox who is still achieving good performances and this time finished in 48mins.11secs.
