The largest National Banger event held at the Arlington raceway in more than 40 years takes place this Wednesday July 31 when the Banger World Series makes its first ever appearance in Sussex.

This new initiative from Spedeworth, for the Unlimited class bangers, brings together the biggest and hardest hitting names in the sport today, across eight meetings around the country.

In a series that has been full of great racing and massive crashing, where the huge crowds have been royally entertained, the much anticipated round at Arlington is the final opportunity for drivers to secure a coveted ‘wildcard’ place on the grid for the National Banger World Final held at the Foxhall raceway, Ipswich in the autumn.

More than 80 drivers have booked in for the event already with our own local stars keen to maximise their knowledge of their home track.

They don’t come much bigger in the sport than The Bears, who are based in Newhaven. Led by team captain Nigel Riley, five of their star drivers – Nigel, Keiron Fry, Michael Woodward, Neil Osbourne and Ashley Riley – will be racing on the evening.

Unfortunately, they will be unable to call on the services of Justin Riley who picked up a penalty in a previous round but it is safe to say the others are more than capable of making up for the void he leaves.

Despite being experienced drivers, at least 12 of the total number will be racing for the first time at ‘The Old Lady’, adding an extra dimension to the night’s proceedings.

As well as the heats and final, the meeting will end with ‘The Showdown’ event, where the first car to complete 10 laps or the last car running wins a large cash prize.

The outcome can never be forecast nor guaranteed.

With such a mouth-watering fixture, a sell-out with the ‘Stadium Full’ boards being raised is expected so arrive early! First race is at 7.30pm.
