The annual general meeting for the Hastings Open Bowls Tournament was held at Falaise Indoor Bowls Centre.
Gordon Leggatt continues as president, while Matthew Lock was re-elected as chairman, Neil Flowerdew re-elected as secretary and Mike Grigg re-elected as treasurer.
The tournament made a small loss for 2014 having broken even in the previous two years. This was entirely due to a reduction in entries, a problem shared with many other major tournaments, and which the committee is determined to reverse for the coming year.
There will be additional sponsors for 2015 on top of the continuing partnerships with Croft Glass, The Brickwall Hotel, Gibbons, Mannington & Phipps, and Mr Don Softley.
The format for next year will remain unchanged, as will the total prize money of £2,000 and the entry fee of £3 per player. The committee would welcome more ladies into the competitions as their entries have shown a gradual decrease over the last few years.
The ever-popular charity competition at the end of September was held on a beautiful, warm and sunny day. Once again it attracted many players with more than 40 coming from outside the county.
The main beneficiary was Dragonflies, a counselling service for young people under the auspices of the Fellowship for St Nicholas, which received a cheque for £500.
The committee again looked for more participation from local clubs, not only as members of the committee, but also with the running of the tournament as markers and entries.
