Tommy Brewer has dramatically announced he is to sit out the rest of the season after admitting he has “lost his love” for football.
The Lewes defender/midfielder announced to his 1,116 followers on Twitter that he was taking a break because he was “not enjoying” his football.
He added that he intended to get fit over the summer with the aim of coming back “with the buzz that used to wake me up on Saturday.”
Within the last hour, Brewer announced: “Well that’s it for me and football this season... decided to let it go after trying for ages to get the enjoyment back which hasn’t happened... since I left Carshalton earlier in the year.
“Going 2 get fit over the summer and come back with the buzz that used to wake me up on Saturday.
“All the best too (sic) @Wealdstone_FC @CarshaltonA_FC and @Lewes_cfc for the rest if (sic) the season. I’ll be back.
“Also the fans at every club I was at were top drawer and supportive. Hope the best for all of you!”
When asked by a friend on Twitter what the problem was, he replied: “Lost the love mate. Not enjoying it and ain’t fair on my old man coming to watch all the time. Time out will get buzz back.”
The announcement prompted a wave of supportive comments from team-mates, plus Lewes and Wealdstone fans.
