Diary of a Dart Player with Andy Relf

The time has come... back out playing with the big boys! This weekend I travel to Derby for my first PDC Players Championships since May. For the first time in a long time, all of the top players will be in attendance, with Raymond Van Barneveld making a rare UK Players Championship appearance, so add him to the list of Taylor, Anderson, Wade and Whitlock, and it should be a fantastic two days.

My warm up for the weekend has gone pretty well, winning all my matches that I’ve played this week. On Tuesday the Kings Head were at home against the HMI Club, and in a tight match we lost the last leg decider, but it was a good performance form the team despite this.

On Wednesday and the Superleague reached its climax with our last game a home match against league champions Newhaven. We needed a good result to consolidate our second place in the league. I won my match 3 – 1 against Michael Donegan, managing a 180, and finishing one leg with a 140 checkout. The game went down to the wire again, and at 4 – 4 it was up to Adam Hart to try to win the match for us. Adam went 2 nil ahead, but his opponent turned up the heat, and sneaked the win 3 – 2, and claimed the match for Newhaven. We are fairly sure that we hung on to second spot, but as yet haven’t had it confirmed.

This weekend also sees one of my ex superleague team mates in action at the BDO Winmau World Masters in Hull, Jim Withers from Eastbourne won through the qualifiers in Slough a couple of weeks ago, so all the best of luck to him.

Anyway, that’s me done for this week, so it’s off to Derby now, and time to up my game.
