The Eastbourne Lifestyle Eagles head towards their opening match of the season against Belle Vue on Saturday in good spirits.

An excellent atmosphere is building within the team as they get ready to take on the Manchester club in the opening Elite League match of 2013.

Co-promoter and team manager Trevor Geer said: “The boys are keyed up and really want to do well. I can see every one of them improving on their averages this year.

“We have five riders back from last year and the newcomers are, of course, no strangers. Bjarne Pedersen rode for us in 2011 and it was at Arlington that Adam Shields made his mark at senior level in British speedway.”

Geer is keen for his team to get off to a flying start against Belle Vue and quickly put together a challenge for a top-four, end-of-season play-off place. “We are more than capable of doing that,” he said.

Geer is warning the team about the dangers of getting “caught cold” in their first match of the year and the need to be fully prepared; mentally, fitness-wise and mechanically.

Saturday’s match begins at 7.30pm.

Fans will be able to buy the Eagles’ new-look programme, which has eight more pages than last year.

Co-promoter Mike Bellerby said: “The programme remains the traditional A5 format but there will be much more for people to read. Layout and design has also been improved to make, what I think, is an extremely attractive package which is easier on the eye.”

Features from last year have been retained but new regular articles include a “From the Archive” section, a quiz, rider profile and more news and “gossip” about the Eagles. The programme costs £2.50.

Wi-fi internet access is now available at Arlington from within the clubroom. Details of log-in codes are available from the bar.
