Eastbourne Eagles miss out on Elite League play offs

Eastbourne Eagles have missed out on a place in this year’s Elite League play offs.

Defeat at Birmingham in their final match on Thursday saw them slip out of the top four.

The Eagles finished their home programme on September 1 but then had a run of away matches to cement the top four place.

However, they fell to a series of heavy defeats, capped at Birmingham.

Up to the half-way stage the Eagles were the better side but then collapsed as the home team stepped on the gas.

Final score: Birmingham 56, Eastbourne 34.

Eastbourne scorers: Lukas Dryml 8+1(5), Cameron Woodward 8(6),Nicolai Klindt (Guest for Timo Lahti) 6+1(5), Denis Gizatullin 5(4), Joonas Kylmakorpi 4+1(4), Lewis Bridger 3(6), Rider Replacement for Simon Gustafsson.

In other local speedway news, Eagles’ No 1 Joonas Kylmakorpi secured his third successive world long track title at the weekend. Cameron Woodward, Eagles’ captain, finished sixth in the series in his debut year.
