The 3G All Weather Pitch located at the Uckfield Community Technical College was the scene of the 1st anniversary celebrations this week, when Joe Marler, the England International prop and newly elected Harlequins Premier Club skipper, was invited as guest celebrity to cut an enormous birthday cake in front of invited guests, and boys and girls covering all age groups and leading officials of both Football and Rugby Union fraternity.

The 3G playing surface enables both Football and Rugby Union training and matches to be played; it took 5 years to deliver and finance and is a tremendous boost to expand the sparse sporting facilities in East Sussex.

After Dept Mayor Cllr Jeremy Hallett’s community welcome on behalf of Uckfield Town Council, who contributed £135,000 to the £700,000 project, Headmaster of the college, Hugh Hennerby emphasised the importance of the facility to the college students and their supporting development in the future.
