Fifteen Hailsham Hornets put in proficient display

Fifteen swimmers from Hailsham Hornets put on a proficient display of swimming at the Hastings Open meet held at the Summerfield Leisure Centre.

They excelled across all events and collectively came away with 38 medals and 53 personal best times.

Bethany Collins (14) outclassed the competition in her age group, coming within the top four of all nine events entered. She attained gold medals in the 100m Butterfly, 100m Individual Medley, 50m Freestyle, 200m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley and silvers in 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. Bethany completed a brilliant swim in the 100m Individual Medley finishing in a county qualifying time of 1.14.22. Bethany also picked up the most points throughout the day and was awarded the Top Girl trophy.

Milly Widdop (11) motored to victory in the 100m Backstroke, finishing in a new county qualifying time of 1.21.77. Milly also gained gold in the 50m Freestyle in an improved race time, and silver medals in 200m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle.

Macy Ring (11) had a fantastic day of racing, swimming personal best times in all six events. Macy finished first in the 50m Backstroke, second in 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle, third in 50m Breaststroke and forth place in the 200m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle.

Excellent swims from Maezie Lane (11) in the 200m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke earned her second place finishes. Sasha Goldsmith (11) achieved a silver medal after a fantastic 200m Freestyle swim, and Gemma Collins collected bronze medals in 200m Breaststroke and Freestyle.

Congratulations to Abbie Shorthouse on attaining her first county time and a bronze in the 50m Backstroke and to Amelia Evershed on her 50m Breaststroke gold medal. Superb swims from Sarah Lancaster and Alisha Gurr gained them new best racing times across various events.

Our male swimmers also competed brilliantly at this open meet. Thomas Jackson (12) had a fantastic 200m Butterfly swim, to take the gold, and he also picked up silver in the 100m Butterfly race. Thomas gained further medals in the 100m Individual Medley, 200m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke, in which he improved his race time by 12 seconds and achieved a county level qualification time.

Frankie Lee (11) competed well across all strokes and attained a county qualifying time in the 200m Backstroke event. Frankie finished first in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Freestyle, and 200m Butterfly. He also secured a silver medal in the 50m Backstroke.

Craig Steenhoff excelled in the Breaststroke events, of the 15 years and over age group category, to finish in top spot in the 200m and 100m races.

Well done to Lachlan Gower on great performances in the pool which earned him a silver in the 50m Butterfly and bronze in 200m Freestyle. Impressive swims by Jools Lee in the 200m Backstroke and Freestyle saw him come away with two bronze medals.
