A superb second half performance saw Lewes come from behind to beat Wingate & Finchley 3-1 at the Harry Abrahams Stadium in North London yesterday (Saturday).

The Rooks went in 1-0 down at the interval thanks to a Spencer McCall goal right on the strike of half time.

But the visitors were level six minutes into the second half through Ade Olorunda – and they were ahead on 69 minutes through Nathan Crabb, who headed home from a Nicky Wheeler cross.

They made the game safe soon afterwards when Olorunda headed home for his second of the game following a Jack Dixon corner.

The victory moved Lewes up one place to sixth in the Ryman Premier table and extended the Rooks’ unbeaten record to 11 in all competitions this season – 10 in the league.

They now travel to league leaders Wealdstone tomorrow (Monday) evening knowing a draw will move them up to fifth (joint third on points with Maidstone United and AFC Hornchurch) while a win will see them move to the top of the table.

The official Lewes FC Twitter feed purred: “10 League games unbeaten. Last season it took till mid December to get this many points [20]. Amazing start.”

Rooks: Banks, S Crabb, Gore, Lovett, Vickers (Dollery), Walder (c), Wheeler, Dixon, Olorunda (Smith), N Crabb, M Crabb.

Subs not used: Treleaven, Brinkhurst, Logan.
