There was a good turnout of nine runners from Uckfield Runners for the third Cross Country race of the Season at Firle Beacon on Sunday, December 30.
The weather was bright and dry but there was a cold wind especially given the exposed position of Firle Beacon. Since this is chalk downland the route was not overly muddy despite the recent heavy rain. The course is broadly triangular with a fast steep descent to start followed by a long climb back up before a slight descent to the finish.
Any benefit of the descent is however offset by a headwind, so making it a tough run.
Uckfield Runners compete in the league as a combined team with Heathfield Road Runners, and that team finished a creditable fourth behind Lewes AC, Eastbourne Rovers and Hailsham Harriers.
The team retained its current fourth position in the league to date with three races to go. First home for Uckfield Runners was Terry Everest with a creditable time of 37.35, followed by Ryan West 40.35, Shaun Furlong 42.03, Graham West 42.08, Rachael Hornigold (pictured) 45.56, Catherine Harker 47.55, Tanya Edmondson 50.12, Peter Wilkes 51.17 and Adele Harvey 66.54.
