Hailsham lost by the odd goal in seven to Crawley 2rd XI.

Much to their own embarrassment, Hailsham found themselves three goals down at half time. The second half started with Hailsham coming out fighting and it wasn’t long before captain Dan Ivemy rocketed a shot past the Crawley goalkeeper to give Hailsham a lifeline. Tristan Pengilley then weaved through the Crawley defence to scramble the ball across the line for a second Hailsham goal, before scoring a third courtesy of a cross in from Dan Ivemy, having been assisted in the build-up by man of match Josh Headey.

Unfortunately, the home team were cruelly denied a point when, in the final minute of play, they conceded a penalty flick which Crawley duly converted into the winning goal.

In Sussex Open Division 4, Brighton Brigands beat Hailsham Men’s 2nd XI 4-1.

Steve James deflected a penalty corner strike from Mick Buckingham into the Brighton goal to claim the only first half goal for Hailsham. In the second half, excellent reactions from the Brighton keeper, one penalty corner goal and three from open play for Brighton made it a day to forget for Hailsham.
