Hailsham represented at the Regional Youth Championships

Six of Hailsham Hornet’s top swimmers represented the club at the South East Regional Youth Championships, held at the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley and Surrey Sports Park.

This elite group faced fierce competition from the hundreds of swimmers across the South East region, but they held their own gaining some great race times and collectively acheiveing eighteen top 30 placings.

Maddie Drury (14) focused on the Freestyle races, qualifying for the 200m, 400m and 800m. Maddie was on form in the long distance 800m event, with a fantastic 8th place finish in a time of 9.57.73. She also swam strongly in the 400m, taking 10th place, as well as 24th in the 200m.

Craig Steenhoff (31) also equalled Hailsham highest placing of 8th in the 200m Butterfly championship, finishing in a time of 2.20.48. Further brilliant Butterfly swims enabled Craig to achieve 15th in the 100m and 21st in the 50m races.

Ben Kebbell (15) represented Hailsham across a variety of strokes and distances, as he qualified for an amazing nine events. Ben’s most successful swim was in the 1500m Freestyle long distance race, in which he put in a powerful performance and gained 9th place. He was also ranked 13th in 200m Breaststroke, 15th in 400m Individual Medley, 21st in 50m Breaststroke, and within the top 50 in his other events.

Both Evan Draper (18) and Nathan Pashler (16) qualified for 6 regional events. Evan excelled in the 200m Individual Medley coming 24th and Nathan’s best performance was in the 200m Backstroke in which he finished in 25th position.

Bethany Collins (14) battled hard in the Butterfly races, attaining 25th in the 50m and 31st in the 100m sprints.
