Swimmers from Hailsham’s Performance Squad took part in the ‘Not So Early Bird’ Long Course Open Meet, at the K2 leisure centre in Crawley. The team competed commendably and collectively came away with 28 medals, including nine gold.

Our junior captain Joe Golding (13) put in terrific performances throughout the day, topping the club’s individual gold medal tally. Joe gained gold in the 100m and 200m Freestyle events, and 200m Individual Medley, in a new best race time of 2.40.12. He also finished in bronze medal position in the 100m Breaststroke.

Milly Widdop (11) was on winning form after brilliant swims in the Butterfly events. She finished first in the 50m and 100m races, recording improved long course race times in both. Milly added to her medal collection by securing silver in the 50m Breaststroke, and gaining bronze in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke. Lexie Coleman, also eleven, was successful in the sprint races, taking silver in 50m Freestyle and bronze in 50m Backstroke.

Ben Kebbell battled hard in the sixteen years age group, which earned him a stack of medals. Determined swims gained him a well-deserved gold in 200m Freestyle, silvers in 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle, as well as bronze in the 100m Breaststroke and Backstroke.

Nathan Pashler (17) powered to victory in the 50m Butterfly sprint, taking gold in a personal best time of 28.33. Nathan continued his excellent form to achieve silver place in 100m Backstroke and Butterfly, and third position in 100m and 50m Freestyle events. Craig Steenhoff’s brilliant 50m Backstroke sprint saw him touch in first place, which he followed up later in the day with a silver in the 50m Freestyle.

Maezie Lane ended the day of racing on a high after a tremendous swim in the 100m Backstroke. Her determination and focus saw her race past higher ranked swimmers to finish in gold medal position, in a time of 1.25.28.

Well done to bronze medallists Macy Ring (100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke), Ruby Gower (50m Backstroke) and Lachlan Gower (200m Freestyle).
