A small squad from Hailsham Swimming Club competed in the Crawley Spring Open Meet. Facing strong competition from many out of county clubs, at this level 1 long course (50m) gala, the Hornets swimmers held their own. They gained 24 top eight placing’s, and three swimmers came away with 7 medals collectively.

Our most adorned competitor was thirteen year old Sam Avery, who excelled in all his races and gained Hailsham’s only gold medal. A superb sprint in the 50m Backstroke secured him the gold, and strong swims in the 50m Freestyle and Butterfly earned him bronze medals. Sam also went on to take the silver in the 100m Backstroke race and achieved a personal best time in the 50m Breaststroke to finish 5th.

Craig Steenhoff (31) was awarded bronze medals, after brilliant Butterfly swims over 50m and 100m distances. Craig swam well across both days of competition, finishing 4th in 200m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke, 6th in 100m Freestyle and 8th in 100m Backstroke.

Milly Widdop (10) achieved three long course personal best times and finished within the top 9 swimmers across all events entered in the 10/11 years age group. Milly gained valuable long course racing experience, competing in the 200m Butterfly event for the first time. She came away with a bronze medal for her efforts.

Tom Barden (11) improved his race times in both events that he took part in. He finished 8th in the 400m Freestyle and 9th in the 200m Backstroke.

Well done also to Frankie Lee (10) for his 8th place finish in 100m Butterfly, Joe Golding (13) on coming 6th in 400m Freestyle, James Bradley (20) who came 7th in 50m Backstroke and 8th in 100m Freestyle, and Nathan Pashler for his 9th place finish in 100m Butterfly.
