Bognor Regis Swimming club hosted the Vanessa Knight Memorial Open Meet, at the Arun Leisure Centre in Felpham. Seventeen swimmers from Hailsham Hornets made the trip along the south coast, for what turned out to be a very successful day of racing.

Hailsham finished top overall in the club rankings by a clear 36 points, taking the ‘top boys’ and ‘top girls’ awards, after our swimmers came away with stacks of medals and improved race times.

Milly Widdop outshone the competition in the ten years age group, with superb swims that led her to win all five of her races. In addition to the gold medals gained, Milly achieved a new personal best time of 2.31.65 in the 200m Freestyle and set new event record times in 100m Individual Medley, 50 Butterfly and 50m Freestyle.

Congratulations to Sarah Lancaster (10) and Abbie Shorthouse (11) on competing in their first open meet gala. A super swim in the 200m Freestyle earned Sarah a silver medal in the C category. Abbie was also successful in this category, attaining gold in the 50m Breaststroke, along with B category gold in the 50m Breaststroke.
