The Bexhill poppy races organised by TL events included a 5k which formed part of the Sussex Road Race Grand Prix series followed by a 10k and half marathon and a youngsters run.

All starts and finishes were held at the towns iconic De la Warr Pavilion with the remembrance theme and a poppy medal to all finishers.

The first of the races was the 5k Grand Prix event with a quality field of almost 200 runners participating for their points total and with only one more event to come at Crowborough at the end of this month each point earned was important towards each runners final total. This run was on the promenade and part of South Cliff Road over one lap of an out and back mainly flat course heading west toward Cooden and Hailsham Harriers had seventeen of their squad including their two main contenders Gary Judges and David Ayling competing with Gary taking the honours with a splendid 7th place and David close with 9th from the overall winner Kevin Rojas of Brighton & Hove AC in 16m11s. A number of the others also recorded some personal best times with the positions and times as follows: 7th Gary Judges 17m33s, 9th David Ayling 17m42s, 49th Giles Bowmer 20m33s, 55th Alan Thornton 21m03s, 62nd Ian Turnbull 21m34s, 72nd David Coulson 22m13s, 74th Wendy Robson 22m19s, 83rd Tina Macenhill 22m51s, 88th Mark Bassett 23m14s, 91st Colin Burgess 23m34s, 94th Tracy Erridge 23m49s, 98th Helen O’Sullivan 24m33s, 109th Norman Harris 25m18s, 119th Roberto Proietti 26m01s, 126th Frances Delves 26m32s, 139th Dan Linford-Jones 28m10s, 155th Lesley Underdown 30m13s.

The 10k which followed over 2 laps of the 5k course saw four Harriers competing in a field of over 200 runners and the first home was Graham Purdye in 7th with 41m59s, 37th Lucy Wright 50m55s, 117th Hannah Mullane 1h02m11s and 126th Helen Tickner 1h03m57s. The youngsters race over 1k saw Bailey Wright take 4th place overall.

The final race and the largest field with nearly 800 runners saw seven Harriers including two Helen O’Sullivan and Tina Macenhill who had competed in the earlier 5k. This route took in two 8k loops then a lap of the 5k course. Positions and times were 10th Adrian Elliott 1h26m23s, 43rd and 2nd lady Liz Lumber 1h33m41s, 91st Graham Woolley 1h40m42s, 123rd Mark Pope 1h42m43s, 244th Helen O’Sullivan 1h52m07s, 411th Tina Macenhill 2h08m21s, 477th Richard Tickner 2h08m21s.

In an earlier event at Beckley near Rye three Harriers took park in this 10k race with Steve Delea first home in 14th 43m44s, 39th Dave Coulson 48m32s and 129th Lesley Underdown 1h04m40s.
