HAILSHAM HOCKEY Club’s men’s first XI came up against a very strong Eastbourne side that took the lead after just 10 minutes before Hailsham had got into their stride.
Hailsham reacted well changing their playing system immediately and applied the pressure winning numerous short corners.
With some terrific runs from man of the match George Cyster it wasn’t long before skipper Daniel Ivemy hit the backboards to level. Eastbourne immediately came back with a couple of fast breaks and were able to take the lead with two more goals before half time for a 3-1 lead at the break.
Hailsham played a much better second half, with more constructive hockey than the first and soon reduced the deficit through a well worked goal from Tris Pengilley, but Eastbourne struck back twice more taking the lead to 5-2 before Hailsham short corner routines started to pay off and two goals in the final 10 minutes for Cyster reduced the deficit but ultimately was not enough to claim a share of the points.
