HOCKEY: Lewes Men’s promotion hopes are receding

LEWES saw their faint hopes of promotion diminish further over the weekend with two defeats to leave them in third place in the league.

On Sunday, Lewes Men’s 1st XI slipped to their second defeat of the weekend, going down narrowly to leaders Oxford Hawks 1-0 at the Southdown Club. Hawks scored in the first half and but for an inspired goalkeeping performance from Sam Brooks in the Lewes goal the defeat could have been heavier. Lewes will need to pick themselves up tomorrow (Saturday) when they are at home to second place West Hampstead (3pm at the Southdown Club). Defeat will mean an end to their promotion hopes but victory will mean mathematically they could still grab the second promotion place although West Hampstead would have to pick up only one point from their final three games and Lewes win their final two games for this to happen which is very unlikely.
