Lewes Golf Club’s ladies are through to round three of the Mail on Sunday National Knock Out competition.

They comprehensively beat their counterparts from East Sussex National in a second round tie on Sunday.

Captain Claudine Lower, Christine Robinson and Anna Worth all won their matches, while Mandy Quick halved hers; so, although Sue Richardson was unsuccessful this time, Lewes still came out on top by 3.5 points to 1.5.

The men’s team will try to emulate the ladies’ success when they play in round two of the Mail on Sunday Classic away at Royal Eastbourne next week.

In club competitions this week, the March Medal went to Jonny Wood with a nett 67. Tom Hilton came second with nett 69 and AJ Boyse was a further shot behind in third.

Jackie Pelling took the Ladies Medal, also with a nett 67.

Paul Sandford claimed the Midweek Medal with a nett 71. Paul Goswell took a shot more for second place and James Stewart, one of three players to finish on 73, took third prize on countback.

In the latest round of the ongoing Winter Eclectic series, Tom Drysdale topped the leader board with 37 Stableford points, but he was closely followed home by David Pilfold and Nigel Couchman, who both scored 36 but were placed second and third respectively on countback.

The Seniors kicked off their 2014 Eclectic series with a closely fought affair which saw the top seven separated by just one point. Ray Eggleton, Terry Stanley and Alan Dack were given the 1-2-3 on countback after all three finished on 32.
