Mark Pope thunders into Bandits' Captain Keith Conlon in the Final

On a dramatic night of racing at Arlington Stadium, this year’s South Coast Hydraulics Banger League, was thrown wide open as the feud between the Southern Bandits and multi-champions Rob Haines and Mark Pope escalated.

Whilst the knockabout action was being thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd, the trio of Mark Almeida, Rob Barnes and James Vockins all seized the opportunity to score heavily, pushing them to the top of the table.

With 45 cars booked in to race around the tight oval, things were always going to be exciting for those on the terraces, and so it proved.

The first heat saw Rob Haines gain sweet revenge on Bandit Wayne Turner, slamming him into a retired car on the Hailsham bend. Having already jumped out of his charge, Haines was then stunned to see Turner retaliate on his empty car in an attempt to wreck it for the evening.

The inappropriate behaviour saw Turner ejected for the remainder of the meeting.
