Uckfield RFC 1s 7, Burgess Hill RFC 12: With a strong squad on a soaking wet afternoon at Hempstead Playing Fields, Uckfield 1st XV capitulated despite going in at the break with a 7-5 lead.
An understandably scrappy game was controlled by Burgess Hill with far superior game management, primarily through their fly half who sat deep and put boot to ball in the right areas all afternoon.
Uckfield answered Burgess Hill’s early push-over try with a stunning individual effort, once again Captain Lee Evans leading by example with a chip and chase from the half way line. Charlie Buckland converted well under pressure to give Uckfield the lead at half time, but the second half saw largely one-way traffic as Burgess Hill controlled the breakdown far better, giving away barely any penalties in comparison to the home side. A deserved win by Burgess Hill, and a steep learning curve for Uckfield.
