Undeterred by the non-stop rain thirty Piltdown ladies assembled in the Clubhouse on Thursday 20th February for an indoor sports meeting.
They were divided into the Captain’s and the Secretary’s teams, and competed in four events: chipping, putting, boules and a quiz organised by the Professional, Jason Partridge. The Captain’s team won.
The morning proved a great success. It was followed by the unexpected pleasure of congratulating Annette Shelford on her birthday, in response to which she treated the ladies to some wine with their lunch, a delicious variety of lasagnes, salads and fruit and cheese provided by the kitchen staff.
Popular though these off-course high-jinks have been, the ladies would rather be playing golf, and very much hope to do so in next week’s stableford.
In fact the day after the ladies’ indoor morning the course opened for the next round of the Winter-Pro League – an emergency concession as they are running out of dates for completing the competition.
The six teams, seventy-two men no less, enjoyed fifteen holes of competitive golf followed by the now traditional lunch. After two rounds, the two teams of financial wizards share the top two places in the league, with the investment gurus narrowly maintaining their lead over the bean-counters.
