Bridgeview Judo Club hosted one of its most successful junior gradings over the weekend, with ten youngsters taking part and all receiving promotions.
Beginning their judo education, Sumi Head, Sofia Lesage and Juno Butler-Cole progressed from novice to first mon and earned the right to wear their new red belts. At the next level Lia Head and Samantha White moved up from first mon to second mon, and earned an extra stripe on their belts. In the yellow belt section Olivia Akehurst and Niah Salmon both went from fourth mon to fifth mon, securing a ranking in the middle of their category. Daniel Salmon and his brother Jake both worked extremely hard to move two places up the grading ladder, with double promotions from fifth mon to seventh mon. This moves them from yellow belt to orange and is a significant step for the Bridgeview youngsters. Topping the gradings, Ellie Kearley turned out and, despite being poorly all weekend, confidently earned promotion from sixth to seventh mon and also joined the Club’s orange belt team.
While most Sussex clubs are now winding down for the summer break, Bridgeview now commence training for the competition circuit. The Lewes coaching team are hoping the grading successes will boost the junior players for the forthcoming events.
