Hellingly return from the festive break with a crunch league clash against third placed Crawley.

Hellingly are flying high in the Sussex Spitfire League division one and proudly sit in second placed following victory at Seaford on December 20. Nigel Gossedge’s men have lost just once at home this season against league-leaders Eastbourne and will hope to maintain their promotion challenge this Saturday against Crawley (kick-off 2.15pm).

Crawley will arrive in confident mood having beaten Holbrook 55-0 in their last outing on December 20.

Against Seaford, Hellingly were deplteed but still managed to record a 17-31 win. With a ferocious wind at their back Hellingly were able to press Seaford back into their own 22 and a first half hat-trick from Tom Stone, together with a try from James Grey seemed to have finished Seaford’s resistance although a penalty from Seaford meant the half time score of 3-24 gave some hope.

The second half though was to be all Seaford as they drove through the forwards and cut the backline with alarming regularity.

At 17-24 Hellingly regained their form and James Streeter and ex-captain Mark Harris took control of the ball around the fringes and after persistent work by the two Harris was able to bundle over under the posts with Jones converting for 17-31 final score.
