UCKFIELD’s search for a win is still ongoing following Saturday’s 37-13 home defeat to Ashford in London 3 SE, and with it being the business end of the season, this has become a great concern.
In recent weeks, creating chances has not been the problem, it is finishing them.
Last Saturday Ashford were the latest side to beat Uckfield in a game that demonstrated the importance of finishing any chances you get. Ashford, who are on a roll at the moment, move up to fifth in the league, and Uckfield now drop into the bottom three, above only Eastbourne and Crawley.
Ashford ran in six tries in answer to Uckfield’s one, a surging 20-metre break from prop Oliver Park-Gailey. Two Phil Douse penalties were Uckfield’s only other points.
Ashford’s fly half ran their game, and did so very well. Mistakes and missed opportunities cost Uckfield, and missed tackles late on made the score look more one sided than the game actually was.
Uckfield have a rest week next week, and then travel away to fourth-placed place Maidstone.
With fellow strugglers Park House winning heavily at bottom club Crawley, it makes the Park House game at Hempstead Fields at the end of the month very interesting.
