Garry Wilson praised his team for their second half performance after Lewes came from behind to seal a point in a 1-1 home draw with Hampton & Richmond last (Tuesday) night.

Fraser Logan’s excellent 50th minute strike was enough to cancel out Charlie Moone’s 18th minute opener at the Dripping Pan.

And after the Rooks’ 1-0 win at AFC Hornchurch on Saturday, it means an unbeaten start to the season for Wilson’s men and a nice, healthy-looking sixth place in the early Ryman Premier Division standings, with four points from two games.

It could have been six points from two games but late substitute Ross Treleaven’s free kick from 22 yards smacked against the visitors’ left hand upright.

The goal Lewes did score came from a lovely move. Defender Andy Pearson, in on a dual contract from Whitehawk, picked out the impressive Nick Wheeler down the Lewes left flank – and the ex-Burgess Hill winger’s square ball found Logan just inside the Hampton area. His first-time strike flew past Rodney Chiweshe into the bottom left hand corner of the Hampton keeper’s net.

The visitors took the lead in the first half when Moone latched on to a super through ball from Joel Ledgister before dinking the ball past the advancing Banks.

Wilson said: “I thought it was a different proposition from Saturday, the tempo was a little bit quicker.

“I thought first half we did okay but we could have done better at times. There were patches where we did well.

“But in the second half we got the goal which we desperately needed, and it was a fantastic goal.

“It was something we spoke about at half time, how we could get in behind them and get the ball back – and what a great finish.

“And then I thought we started to control the game a little bit, and we were knocking on the door.

“We were at home, we knew we had to come out (second half) and try and get the win. It was a good game of football.”
