Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta will take on former champion and world No.4 Maria Sharapova in the first round of Wimbledon next week.
It’s a daunting prospect for the British No.2 who has never previously advanced beyond the first round at Wimbledon.
Konta, 24, enjoyed a decent run in Eastbourne this week as she reached the quarter final of the AEGON International.
Along the way she beat a top 10 and top 20 player but lost in the last eight to Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic in three sets.
Konta, ranked world No.146, will likely face Sharapova on one of the showcourts at SW19.
British No.1 Heather Watson has a tough first round match with Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the 32nd seed, and Laura Robson takes on Russian Evgeniya Rodina, the world number 101.
