Captain Shebo 1 One Dart 0
Broadband is back! How did we ever survive without it? In case anyone missed my diary last week (it was put up online when my internet started working again) I'll give you a brief run down on what has been going on.
I travelled to beautiful Salzburg in Austria a couple of weeks ago for two PDC Pro Tour competitions. My draws did not work in my favour, as on the Saturday I was up against No 3 seed Colin 'Jaws' Lloyd (again).
I think the bag of names needs shaking up, please! I lost 6-2 to Colin, but I was pleased with my game, as I played well. On the Sunday, I drew Brendan Dolan, a laid back Irishman who just happens to be an excellent player as well. This time I lost 6-1.
I was on a finish after 12 darts in each leg but Brendan's finishing was absolutely awesome. He checked out very quickly in each leg, so couldn't argue with that! He made the semi final in the competition, so I didn't feel so bad.
Our travel partner Adrian Gray had mixed fortunes in Austria. On Saturday a very in-form Adrian Lewis beat him in the first round. Lewis went on to win the tournament, hitting a nine-darter in the final – it looked so easy! On Sunday, however, Adi reached the last 16, narrowly missing the quarter-finals when losing 6-5 to Vincent Van Der Voort. Jamie Caven won the Sunday tournament.
Back at home, our Kings Head team have been notching up some good wins, and are now back on track to take the title in the Harvey League – it is not over yet though! Two more wins should do it. Captain Sheebo is getting a bit edgy though as the finish line gets closer!
I suppose I'd better mention that Captain Sheebo was the only player to beat Peter 'One Dart' Manley in an exhibition night recently.
It has been a talking point ever since…well it has for Sheebo. Perhaps putting it in here for everyone to see will quieten it down a bit. That is until the Wayne Mardle exhibition next month!
Our Superleague fortunes have been up and down of late. We lost to Newhaven a fortnight ago, but unfortunately we had to turn out three players short! As we only lost 5-4, the result could have gone our way with a full team. This week, however, we travelled to Eastbourne Railway Club, and won 5-4.
I played OK, but was really happy to hit a match-winning 100 out shot by hitting single 20, double top, double top. It feels great when it comes off, but you can look a bit silly if you miss. Luckily for me, I seem to be able to hit it when it matters.
This Friday sees the starts of the Cracker League, and hopefully our team will have another successful season.
On Sunday, our team travels to Twickenham for the National Pub Team competition. We have a good strong team including Adrian Gray and Shayne Burgess, so we are hoping for some success there. Finally, congratulations to one of my Monday night team mates, Donna Rainsley from Hailsham. She made it all the way to the last eight in the qualifying tournament for the Women's World Professional play-offs at Bridlington. She lost 3-2 to the eventual qualifier, Rhian Edwards, who will now play at Lakeside in the World Championships. So near, but I'm sure she'll get there one day, as she is playing really well at the moment.
Sports Ed: sorry about the 'speedway' headline that was up for the last couple of days! Now amended to something more appropriate!
