Building on the success the club had at the Brighton 10k and Plumpton cross country event, Lewes AC continued its winning ways at the Crowborough 10k and junior indoor athletics league event at Worthing.

At the tough Crowborough race on Sunday, of the 386 competitors 22 were Lewes AC runners. In second and third positions in the race were the Bradford brothers, with David just in front of Matt in a time of 35 minutes dead to Matt’s 35.42. Next Lewes AC runner across the line was Robbie James in a time of 37.11, a position that also won him 3rd prize in the over 40 age group category.

To add to these individual successes, Alan Jackson finished 31st in 40.30, meaning the club won the men’s team prize to add to the collection of silver ware.

Other individual prize winners in the race were Simon Thomas winning the men’s over 50 category in a time of 41.48 to finish 39th overall, Bob Hughes second in the men’s over 60 category in a time of 50.44 (191st) and Karin Divall winning the women’s over 45 age category in a time of 48.05, finishing 139th.

Crowborough was the last in a series of 10k races across Sussex that formed the 2012 Sussex 10k Challenge. The club’s success at Crowborough and other 10k races by means Lewes AC has won the Sussex 10k Challenge, beating Brighton AC and all other 38 Sussex clubs.

Not to be outdone by the seniors the juniors of the club also had a winning day at Worthing. Competing against Chichester, Steyning, Phoenix and Worthing clubs in the Indoor Athletics League, the U11 and U13 Lewes boys and girls won the match by a wide margin.

Finally, on the same morning and to add to the winning streak, Sally Norris had a superb race in the inaugural Downland Devil 9 Mile race at Lancing, and was first lady overall.
