Plumpton RFC's bring-a-mate match
PLUMPTON Rugby Club took time out from its busy league fixtures to hold its annual "bring-a-mate" match at the weekend.
This fixture offers the club the opportunity to try new players, have some fun and occasionally unlock new talent, and this game was no exception.
With the game played at a high pace throughout, a total of 36 players took to the pitch during the afternoon, with the Plumpton Maroon "Marauders" running out 87-71 winners against the Plumpton Green "All-stars".
The game was played to a high standard, despite five players never having held a rugby ball before, and another seven having not played this season.
With more than 50 supporters turning out for the game, the 158-point game proved to be an excellent spectacle and advertisement for the sport at grass roots level.
Special mention must go to Rhys Beale for organising the annual fixture, which again may have unearthed new potential players for the club.
This weekend Plumpton travel to Hove in the league. Kick off is 3pm.
