Rooks Supporters Trust meeting report
The Rooks Supporters Trust held its second members meeting on Tuesday, June 23rd at the John Harvey Tavern.
This was an opportunity for the steering group and the members to discuss progress over the last few months and for ideas to be put forward regarding various issues such as fund-raising initiatives.
A popular topic throughout the evening was the club's financial situation and Tony Mouzer, having met the board on a number of occasions since the Trust's formation, was able to outline the club's problems in detail.
In response to the criticism the Trust has been subjected to from some areas, Chair Ruth O'Keeffe said that the organisation was not 'set up against anything' and repeated that its legal status made it a more effective fund-raising vehicle than the disbanded Supporters Club. The Trust is currently involved in a three-stage bid for funding to provide new floodlights and toilets at the Pan.
The steering group then addressed another controversial issue. The Pan for Gold lottery had caused division among supporters because the Trust, which took over the accounts from the old Supporters Club, had not been set up to fund the club directly. The friction this caused and the fact that the records weren't up-to-date prompted the Trust to start afresh.
Ideas for a new fund-raising scheme were then suggested. Chris Mason-Felsing proposed the Sunshine Lottery but further suggestions were welcomed, among them the formation of a local lottery or 'hundred club'.
