SUSSEX CCC have announced the signing of their second Friends Life t20 overseas player with South African international seamer Juan Theron heading to The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove, for the upcoming campaign.
He will be joining Scott Styris, who has already been named as one of Sussex’s overseas players for this season’s tournament.
Known as Rusty, the 26 year-old right-armer most recently played for the Proteas at the end of March and plays his domestic cricket with Warriors in South Africa.
He has played for his country nine times in the shortest format and his best bowling of 4-27 in t20 cricket came as he ripped through Pakistan’s batting line-up. He also represented Deccan Chargers in the most recent Indian Premier League.
Theron, who played as Brighton & Hove CC’s overseas player in both 2006 and 2007, said of his stint at Sussex: “I am really looking forward to joining up with Sussex as they have been a leading County in t20 for the last three seasons.
“Having spent two seasons playing club cricket in Brighton, I am pleased to be going back to renew old acquaintances and intend to be part of another successful year with the Sharks.”
Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said: “We’re delighted to have captured a player of Rusty’s quality and experience.
“The finish of an innings can win or lose a match and Rusty is a proven performer in the department of bowling at the death.”
