Elliott: why we avoided administration

MARTIN Elliott has spoken out to defend his decision not to enter the club into administration as the hunt for new buyers becomes ever more urgent.

Lewes FC managing director Mr Elliott has come under intense criticism by some supporters for his decision not to enter the club into administration before last season's deadline of the end of March.

Defending that decision he said, "The Conference rules are very clear – if we had gone into administration we would not be playing in the Conference South (next season). The thoughts are we would be in Ryman South, effectively two divisions below."

If this had happened, he said, the player's budget would be zero and securing sponsorship would be made even harder, eventually leading to the club going bust and having to start again from the bottom of the football pyramid.
