Sussex FA order Lewes and Hastings replay
LEWES will face Ryman Premier Hastings for a third time this season after the Sussex FA ordered them to play a reply after it emerged Hastings fielded an ineligible player.
Ross Treleaven – who scored in the third round replay and then again in the 7-6 penalty shoot-out win – has been found to have been ineligible having appeared as a substitute for Eastbourne Borough earlier in the competition.
Hastings had been given the go ahead to name the player in their side because Eastbourne Borough had not included Treleaven on their match return card. Eastbourne have subsequently been fined for the offence.
Hastings asked for the result to stand and initially the Sussex FA handed the decision to Lewes. But with The Rooks considering their response the FA have now ordered the teams to play another replay.
The game will take place at the Pilot Field on March 16 and as a gesture of goodwill Hastings will not charge admission for either sets of fans. The winner will host Shoreham in the quarter final.
