Uckfield RFC win the Sussex Shield in dramatic fashion

UCKFIELD Rugby 1st XV recovered from their recent play-off disappointment to lift the Sussex Spitfire Shield on Sunday.

Rob Outen's men sealed the trophy with a dramatic late victory over Pulborough

Leading 15-6 in the second half thanks to two tries from the prolific Gregg Chappell Uckfield seemed to be cruising towards victory.

Pulborough scored two tries of their own to suddenly lead 16-15.

But with less than ten minutes remaining 18-year-old fly-half Stuart Pearham - who had been at the heart of all his side's good phases of play - landed a brilliant drop-goal, and Nick Ridley touched down late on to secure the cup and spark wild celebrations.
