Worthing acting group Breakwater Performers are planning for the future after a successful inaugural night of murder, mystery and intrigue.

Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Bob Smytherman and guest Fiona Cooper were among 81 guests who attended the group’s debut show entitled Death on the Prom.

Set in a seaside hotel during the 1920s, the play focused on the murder of an arts dealer, Eustace Tait.

Dividing into teams, the audience watched five suspects discuss their whereabouts at the time of the murder, and questioned them off stage, before attempting to guess the killer.

After the play, Bob congratulated the winning team and said a few words in honour of the group’s first outing.

Bob said: “I thought this was a brilliant way for Breakwater Performers to start its life as a new acting group in Worthing.

“The actors’ performances were extremely comic and believable and the play kept me guessing all the way to the end!

Zahir White, spokesman for Breakwater Performers said: “It was a great boost to have the Mayor and Fiona come along to our first production and we are grateful for Bob’s kind words.”

The group is holding its next production, The Unexpected Guest by Agatha Christie, in April next year.

Auditions are being held in early January and the group would be grateful if anyone interested in taking part could contact them during December so that audition scripts can be handed out. Contact breakwaterperformers@gmail.com or call 07984 314 694.
