Celebratory concert in Brighton marks composer's achievements

Spokesman Peter Farrant said: “Works include Walton’s wonderfully exuberant Crown Imperial, Elgar’s deeply-moving Nimrod and Chilcott’s uplifting and inspirational Requiem, regarded by many as equal to Fauré’s Requiem.

“Bob Chilcott has become one of the most widely-performed living composers of choral music in the world today. This celebratory concert marks his tremendous achievements by featuring both his Jubilate and Requiem.”

Among the performers will be Scottish soprano Catriona Hewitson who received her undergraduate training at the Royal Northern College of Music. She is now a Royal College of Music scholar. She won several prizes while at the RNCM and at the RCM she came second in the Lies Askonas Competition and was awarded the Cuthbert Smith Prize. Her opera highlights include Sophie (Werther, English Touring Opera – ETO), Yniold (Pelléas et Mélisande, ETO), Emmie (Albert Herring, RCM), Ida (Die Fledermaus, RCM), Amore (Orfeo e Euridice, RNCM) and First Young Tree (Paul Bunyan, British Youth Opera).

Peter added: “It is a joy to present these wonderful works as part of the largest arts festival in England and one of the largest fringe festivals in the world.

“Brighton is an iconic city with unique cultural heritage.”
