Charlotte Baynes Exhibition, Hop Gallery, Star Brewery, Castle Ditch Lane, Lewes, Aug 11 & 12 and 17-19.
A VIBRANT, visual response to Flamenco music and dance underlies Charlotte Baynes’ exhibition of painting and drawings at the Hop Gallery, Lewes,
The works are in response to an inspiring, eight-year journey through Spain, in particular, Andalusia. Charlotte studied Flamenco dance intensively for four years before embarking on a series of striking works reflecting its fluid movements and many diverse influences, including Africa and India.
She has exhibited in London, New York, Cádiz, Barcelona, Manchester, Edinburgh, Margate, Whitstable, Canterbury, Folkestone, Maidstone and Argentina.
Charlotte said: “Each time I paint, I see it as a unique challenge - a tense act of discovery and transformation. At times, my brush is abandoned altogether in favour of more lavish injections of paint.
“Despite these apparently-random acts, precision is always a concern, along with a desire to convey something meaningful. Fluidity is a recurring theme, often inspired by my observations of dance and heightened by an unashamedly, bold palette.”
Collections of Charlotte’s works exist in more than 30 countries worldwide.
Gallery opening times: 11am-4pm.
