LEWES-based artist Jane Wateridge is holding a retrospective show and studio sale at the town’s Lansdown Gallery, Lansdown Place, from tomorrow (Saturday) until Wednesday, May 23.
The exhibition is open daily between 10.30am and 5pm. Jane will be painting and drawing in the gallery studio each weekday from noon.
She is an experimental artist painting in oils and acrylic and making drawings with charcoal, graphite and ink. Her work is inspired by the natural world, urban life and the domestic landscape.
Jane is currently exploring traditional subjects captured in moments of transition, in a quest to occupy the tense, fertile terrain that lies somewhere between figuration and abstraction.
Travelling as often as possible, with sketchbooks, paint and canvas, feeds her studio practice and interest in European contemporary painting and art history.
She spent several years working as a freelance designer of printed textiles for furnishing. Visit www.lansdowngallery.co.uk
