Mayfield Festival highlights

Mayfield Festival of Music & the Arts, May 4-13.

PERFORMERS including Tenebrae and the John Wilson Orchestra feature in the programme for the 2012 Mayfield Festival of Music & the Arts.

Spokeswoman Kate Sanday said: “The line-up includes the sensational John Wilson & the John Wilson Orchestra, in a celebration of The Golden Age of Broadway. The orchestra has an international reputation as a unique hand-picked ensemble of some of the world’s finest musicians.

“Tenebrae, considered by many to be the finest choir in the UK, is set to make a return to

Mayfield to give another compelling performance by candlelight, a distinctive close to this popular festival on May 13.

The Festival’s artistic director Neil Mackie added: “This year the Festival programme mixes well-known names with providing a platform for younger musicians. The 2012 Mayfield Festival celebrates the year of the London Olympics with an impressive roster of Young Classical Olympians, many of whom are destined to become tomorrow’s stars, together with our internationally-established artists and loyal festival friends.

“Among these up-and-coming stars are the award-winning Finzi Quartet, whose debut performances at the Wigmore Hall delighted critics and audiences alike. Prize-winning artists including The Rose Trio – a reed trio comprising three sisters - and guitarist Sean Shibe will take centre stage during the Festival, which will bring to Mayfield also Britain’s young professional orchestra, Southbank Sinfonia.”
