New venture brings music to the villages

The Villages Music Festival and Art Trail, June 23-July 1.

THE Villages Music Festival and Art Trail is a new venture bringing together the villages of Ripe, Chalvington and Laughton, near Lewes in East Sussex.

Spokeswoman Joan Hester said: “The aim of the Villages Music Festival is to promote all kinds of music within the community and to enjoy and encourage talented local musicians whilst raising money for local causes. Music crosses boundaries and brings communities together.

“The events include a dinner and a light-hearted talk entitled Private Musical Passion by Stephen Jones, conductor, raconteur and pianist, cream teas accompanied by a string quartet in the garden of Limekiln Farm, a jazz night, tea at Laughton school with entertainment by the children, an evening of folk songs with poetry, Rebecca Teager (clarinet) and Stephen Rooke (piano) in concert, the Brighton Welsh Male Voice Choir, and a medley of items from local village choirs as a finale. In addition to the music there will also be a flower festival in Ripe Church and an art trail.”
