Paul Downes, Willows Folk Club, Wednesday, February 15, 8pm.
ARUNDEL’S Willows Folk Club promises another of the UK’s finest folk acts, singer and guitarist Paul Downes.
Club spokesman Chris Davis said: “Paul’s sensitive yet fun approach to his live performances has seen him become one of the most respected artists on the British folk and acoustic music scene today.
“Those who’ve seen Paul play justifiably regard him as one of the world’s most skilled acoustic guitarists, blending effortless technical brilliance with sensitivity and feeling.
However, despite his notable prowess as a guitarist, Paul considers himself to be first and foremost a singer of songs, drawing on a blend of both traditional and contemporary folk music to shape his unique style.
“Over the years Paul has played with some of the world’s best, including Pete Seeger and Show of Hands’ Phil Beer, with whom Paul played regularly in and around Brighton back in the 1970s.
The duo have since reunited for a couple of brief reunion tours and shows that saw them pulling in capacity audiences to every venue they visited. Paul is also a founder member of The Joyce Gang, one of the most popular folk bands in the UK.
“A mesmerising performer and expert guitarist, Paul Downes is a true artist whose music should appeal to all fans of fine acoustic music.”
Entrance for Paul’s gig is £4. The Willows Folk Club meets every Wednesday in the function room of Arundel Football Club, Mill Road, Arundel, situated to the rear of the large public car park opposite Arundel Castle.
