The Heathfield Choral Society is preparing for a special concert, directed by guest conductor Michael Fields on May 17 in the State Hall, Station Road, Heathfield, at 7.30pm.
The programme will be based around the lovely early English opera Dido and Aeneas, by Henry Purcell. The choir will be joined by an internationally acclaimed cast of soloists from Switzerland, Finland, Germany, as well as this country. The title role and that of the Sorceress will be taken by Evelyn Tubb, who has often been very successful in these parts, Anaeas by Jussi Lehtipuu, other parts by Ansie Boothroyd, Regina Dahlen and Jonathan Darbourne.
The evening will begin with Handel’s magnificent setting, in a similar baroque-style, of Psalm 110, Dixit Dominus. The same soloists will be included.
Tickets costing £12 in advance (or £15 at the door on the evening) may be had from any choir member or by ringing Peter Jameson on 10435 863414. They may also be booked online from www.wegottickets.com.
