Black comedy and great gospel tunes

A new musical comedy by The Heather Brothers is at Brighton’s Rialto Theatre, Dyke Road, until April 25.

Sin and Salvation is an edgy black comedy that follows G.O.D. TV, Britain’s first pay-to-view religious channel.

The show features more than 20 original Gospel, R&B and Country songs.

American preacher, Reverend Bobby Del La Ray persuades legendary British pop star and devout Christian, Rex Bedderman, to co-host the channel.

It soon transpires that the channel has been funded by the Mafia and in a last desperate attempt to save the channel and his neck. Reverend Bobby adds a new element into the religious program – sex – with earth shattering results.

The Heather Brothers (book, music and lyrics) first came to prominence with Brighton’s most successful home-grown show, ever, A Slice Of Saturday Night, which began at the Nightingale Theatre and transferred to the West End and Broadway.

The Brothers are expecting to emulate this with Sin and Salvation.

Their other credits include: Lust at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket and Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia, Big Sin City, The Comeback, Cold Sweat, Teen Scream, Seriously Twisted, Bobby Dallas and After Party. Their film writing credits include Seriously Twisted and the Big Finish.

Tickets cost £10 (£8 concessions). The show starts at 8pm with matinees on April 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 5pm.
