Dear Serge is an homage to the forward-thinking and innovative mind of architect Serge Chermayeff who, with Erich Mendelsohn, won the competition to design the Modernist De La Warr Pavilion in 1935.
It is a series of one day festivals celebrating the best new thinking within contemporary music, spoken word, sound and visual arts.
Dear Serge will launch on Saturday, April 20, with a programme especially created for the day around the concept of Synthesis: the composition or combination of parts or elements so as to form a whole.
Brighton acts who will be leading the way include the seminal electronic sound artist Ian Helliwell, a site specific piece orginally created for Brighton by Ellen Southern which incorporates a camera obscura and two of Brighton’s main experimental collectives - Safehouse and Spirit of Gravity will also come together to create works the public can be part of.
There will also be a performance by Pink Floyd collaborator Ron Geesin who has been critically acclaimed by the likes of the Guardian and will be performing a vibrant probing of the ether through piano, banjos, bass-xylophone, percussion and throat!
