A brand-new comedy club opens its doors on Friday, April 26 in Haywards Heath.

The venture is the brainchild of Danny Kington, originally from Bristol and now living in Haywards Heath.

Trained by the Redgrave family, he has a solid background in variety and musical theatre both on and off stage, working with many famous names over the last 30 or so years.

Danny has also worked in film and TV with roles in Ken Loach’s The Wind that Shakes the Barley which won the 2006 Palme d’Or at Cannes and the 2012 version of Four Weddings director Mike Newell’s Great Expectations.

Danny said: “The reasons for setting up one of very few Comedy Clubs between Brighton and London are simple. I’m fanatical about providing a platform for new and developing talent.

“With the closure of so many theatres in recent decades the opportunity for new acts to develop and be spotted for the wider audience has all but disappeared. “

Using his contacts in the profession, Daniel has secured a line-up of top quality acts from all over the country.

“There has been a highly unusual groundswell of interest in the Club from within the industry itself with some established agents and comedians offering their services at a greatly-reduced rate to support my efforts to nurture and encourage performers with the aim to see some of them someday achieve fame and fortune.

“Opening the very first show will be Phil Wang, former President of the Cambridge Footlights, winner of 2010’s Chorlte! Young Comedian of the Year and a recent guest on the BBC’s Rob Brydon Show.

“Headline act is Brighton-based Dubliner Jonwayne Connolly, a hugely-popular comedian and fixture of the Edinburgh Fringe with his one man show. Musical entertainment comes in the form of Jessica Marshall, the Burgess Hill girl who found fame when she made it through to the final rounds of last year’s Britain’s Got Talent.

“Also on the line up are successful novelist and comedian Mark Barrowcliffe, Rosie Martin, Southampton-based Joe Hart, Luke Mallinson from the West Country and newcomer from the Brighton Comedy School, Julie Oliver.”

Danny’s Comedy Club has shows from 8pm on the last Friday of every month at the United

Services Club in Wivelsfield Road, Haywards Heath. Doors open at 6pm. Admission is £5 on the door
