COMEDIANS John Hegley and Nathan Penlington will join regular comperes Dyball and Kerr at the Laughter Lounge in Uckfield next Wednesday. John Hegley is known as a performance poet, musician and songwriter as well as stand-up comic. He is a regular at the Edinburgh Festival where he has covered diverse topics such as dog hair, potatoes and hankerchiefs. He has appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, on BBC R4’s Hearing with Hegley and with Ulrika Jonsson and Anita Dobson in The Pyjama Game.
Nathan Penlington is similarly a poet, writer, live literature producer and also a magician. He performs at venues and festivals across the UK, Europe and the US and has shared stages with performers such as Ricky Gervais and Phill Jupitus. He was co-organiser and resident host of London’s weekly spoken word venue Shortfuse from April 2000 to September 2007.
Shortfuse gained a reputation for presenting a mix of stand-up poetry, performance comedy and music. Up-and-coming performers appeared alongside established names such as John Hegley – also appearing at the Laughter Lounge on the same night as Nathan, as mentioned above - Stewart Lee, Kevin Elson and Simon Munnery.
Nathan’s work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s The Verb. He has also appeared on BBC Radio 4’s 28 Acts in 28 Minutes. Dyball and Kerr are a character comedy double act who have toured shows nationally and enjoyed a sell out run at the Edinburgh Festival.
